Accessibility

We are dedicated to fostering an accessible environment that caters to the information needs of every member of our community.

The library welcomes suggestions from patrons as to how we can improve access to those requiring accommodations. Please call the library at (856) 234-0333 or email us at adult@moorestownlibrary.org with your suggestions.

Parking: The library has 4 handicapped spaces.

Entrance: The library has wheelchair-accessible automatic door at the front entrance.

Restrooms: The public restrooms are wheelchair accessible.

Service Animals: In compliance with the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination (NJ-LAD) and the Americans with Disability Act (ADA), service animals are welcome in all areas of the Library where members of the public are normally allowed to go.

We are continually working to update both our online and physical library materials in order to make it easier for individuals with visual impairments to access information.

Large Print Book Collection:  For those who have difficulty reading standard sized print books, the library maintains and updates a collection of large print books, both fiction and non-fiction. In addition, patrons may request copies of books (standard and large print) from other libraries via inter-library loan delivered to the Moorestown Library at no cost.

Audiobook Collection: The library also has a collection of audiobooks which it lends out to cardholders. Where possible, the librarian in charge of the collection tries to make sure that some of the more popular titles are available in audiobook format.

Electronic Resources:  The library offers downloadable book, audiobooks, magazines, music, movies and television series through Overdrive, Hoopla and Kanopy. Anyone with a library card can make use of these services free of charge, allowing patrons access to a variety of information and entertainment without having to leave home. Library staff members are trained on how to set up new accounts and download material and are available during library hours to assist patrons who are new to these resources or who need a refresher on how to use them. View our Electronic Resources.

Wireless Printing:  The library offers wireless printing services, allowing people who prefer to work from home or another outside location the ability to send material to the library for printing.  The material can then be picked up at any time during the library’s open hours. Learn more about wireless printing.

We value inclusion and access for all participants and are pleased to provide reasonable accommodations for all events and activities.

If you need specific accommodations, such as sign language interpretation, for any of our events or activities, whether on-site or online, please get in touch with us at 856-234-0333 or email adult@moorestownlibrary.org.

The library is committed to ensuring the accessibility of all its documents and promotional materials. This effort encompasses various types of content, including flyers, brochures, handouts, social media posts, and newsletters. Our goal is to meet or exceed the minimum accessibility requirements outlined in the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) guidance.

Accessibility considerations go beyond just complying with legal standards; they reflect our commitment to providing equitable access to information for all members of our community, including those with disabilities.

  • Readability: Prioritize readability by carefully selecting fonts, font sizes, colors, and hues. This includes making sure that content is clear and legible for everyone, regardless of their visual abilities.
  • Universal Design: Embrace the principles of universal design to create materials that are usable by the widest possible audience. This means our materials are designed to be inclusive by default.
  • Text Alternatives/Readable Text: Ensure that screen readers and other assistive technologies can use our documents, online promotional materials, and social media.

By taking these steps, we aim to make our information and resources accessible to everyone, promoting a more inclusive and diverse library experience. If you have specific accessibility-related concerns or suggestions, please don’t hesitate to contact us. Your input is invaluable in our ongoing efforts to enhance accessibility.

The Moorestown Library is committed to making its website accessible to all members of the public, including individuals with disabilities.

We base our website accessibility standards on the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2, Level AA success criteria. In addition, we actively work to maintain, assess, and improve the usability and accessibility of our website. This includes getting advice from accessibility experts, training our team members who create and update content, and regularly testing our website for accessibility.

Steps We’ve Taken So Far:

  1. Website Structure: We have meticulously structured our website to ensure logical organization and intuitive navigation. Information is categorized and labeled clearly for ease of understanding.
  2. Keyboard Navigation: Our website is fully operable using only a keyboard, allowing users with mobility impairments to navigate seamlessly through all pages and interactive elements.
  3. Responsive Design: We have implemented a responsive design approach, ensuring that our website adapts and functions effectively across various devices and screen sizes.
  4. Consistent Layout: Maintaining a consistent layout throughout the website enhances predictability and facilitates efficient navigation for all users.
  5. Streamlined Content: We’ve optimized content presentation by reducing page count and consolidating information to prevent content overload.
  6. Voice Command Compatibility: Our website is designed to be compatible with voice commands, providing an accessible browsing experience for users who rely on voice control technology.

Known Limitations
1. Our website may include widgets and links to third-party websites. It’s important to note that we do not control the ongoing accessibility of these widgets and websites.
2. Some older PDF documents on our website may not be accessible. We are working to make these documents accessible, but this may take some time.

Challenges and Future Improvements:

Despite our ongoing efforts, it’s important to acknowledge that maintaining accessibility may face challenges, particularly due to administrative oversight. While we strive to uphold accessibility standards, adjustments made by administrators could impact the website’s accessibility at any time.

To address this, we are implementing regular accessibility audits and training sessions for administrators. By fostering awareness and providing resources, we aim to minimize the risk of unintentional accessibility issues arising from administrative changes. If you encounter any accessibility barriers or have suggestions for improvement, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us at adult@moorestownlibrary.org
